3 Steps to Teaching positive color awareness

MELANIN

1

Explain the Science

Our skin colors come down to science.  Teaching kids the facts about what forms their unique skin color is an important foundation to lay.

2

Instill Personal Pride

Children should take pride in themselves and in their heritage.  This helps children celebrate their skin color and the broader culture and history that go with it.

Help them Practice Kindness

Empathy is a muscle that we build.  Creating opportunities for children to show kindness to others who are different from them is how empathy transforms from something they can describe into something that they practice.

kids need more than just science!

Teach them empathy through a story they'll want you to read over & over again!
